This page explains which cookies and local storage MacroChef uses when you visit macro-chef.app, why we use them, and how you can control them. For how we handle data inside the MacroChef app itself, see the Privacy Policy. We try to keep this short and human-readable. If anything is unclear, email us — see the contact section.
Who we are
MacroChef is operated by Codzilla Sàrl, based in Switzerland. For any privacy-related question, contact: hello@macro-chef.app.
What we collect
Two categories of data, each with a different legal basis:
1. Strictly necessary (no consent required)
To remember your cookie consent choice, we store one item in your browser's localStorage under the key mc_consent_v1. This contains your category preferences and a timestamp. It is stored only in your browser, never sent to a server. Legal basis: legitimate interest (we have to remember whether you accepted to comply with the GDPR itself).
2. Analytics — Google Analytics 4 (only with your consent)
If you accept the Analytics category, we load Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js). GA sets first-party cookies prefixed _ga and _ga_* to count unique visitors, session duration, and aggregate page-view stats. Your IP address is anonymized at collection (last octet truncated). Legal basis: your consent (Article 6.1.a GDPR).

International data transfers
Google Analytics processes data in the United States. Google operates under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision adopted July 2023), which provides an appropriate safeguard for transfers from the EU to the US under Article 45 GDPR.
Your rights under the GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, just as easily as you gave it. Use the cookie button (🍪) at the bottom-right of any page to reopen your preferences
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in France: CNIL; in the EU: find yours at EDPB)
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@macro-chef.app. We respond within 30 days as required by the GDPR.
How long we keep your data
Your consent choice: 12 months from the date you set it. After that, the banner reappears and you can re-confirm.
Google Analytics data: 14 months (the maximum retention we have configured in GA4). Aggregated reports may be retained longer in anonymized form.

Changes to this policy
We may revise this page as the product evolves (new analytics tool, marketing pixels, etc.). The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will trigger a new consent banner.
